Version 1.11.0

This release gives the public map a new layout, with a station card, a new sidebar and stations grouped by status when zoomed out. Operators can now declare which refuelling protocols each nozzle supports, and version 2 of the data API publishes them. Your account, your stations and your existing data are unchanged, and integrations already sending or reading data keep working as before.

A new layout for the public map

The map and the station pages share a new station card. At the top, three cards show the current status, the free nozzles and the price for the chosen fuelling option. Below them, "Before you go" lists what a driver needs before arriving, such as opening hours, access, payment and the connector. A banner says when refuelling is not possible or restricted, and until when, and another warns when storage is low. Directions, opening hours, contact, operator, amenities, photos, events, dispensers and prices follow, reachable through links that stay at the top while you scroll. The report form opens inside the card.

On the map, the card opens on the right on a computer and slides up from the bottom on a phone. It follows the fuel filter and refreshes with the station statuses.

The fuelling option is now chosen in two steps, vehicle and pressure, and the choice applies to the map and the card alike. When another option at the same station fits the vehicle and has a better status, the card suggests switching to it.

A new sidebar holds the fuel filter, a status legend you can expand and the number of stations per fuelling option. On a phone it becomes a sheet at the bottom of the screen.

Status pins and clusters

Stations show as round pins with the colour and symbol of their status. Zoomed in, the price appears next to the pin. When you zoom out, nearby stations are grouped into clusters. Each cluster shows the number of stations and a ring with their mix of statuses, and pointing at it lists how many stations are in each status.

New map controls

  • A search field finds a station in operation by name or city. Ctrl+F jumps to it.
  • Round buttons show your position and bring back the view of all stations.
  • The time of the last update, for example "Updated 10:03", refreshes the statuses when tapped. When an update fails, the map says so and offers to retry.

700 bar for trucks and buses

The map now offers 700 bar for heavy-duty vehicles as a fuelling option. Since operators are still adding these stations, the map marks the option as new and says that few stations are listed yet.

Declare the refuelling protocols of each nozzle

On the Station layout tab, each nozzle can now list the refuelling protocols it supports. A step-by-step form asks for the protocol, the standard edition, the control methods, the communication modes, the pre-cooling categories and the vehicle tank categories. It only offers the choices that fit the nozzle hardware. Each protocol shows a short description next to its name.

Advice appears while you fill in the form, and saving with open issues asks you to confirm first. Saved entries can be edited and deleted. To change the protocol itself, delete the entry and add a new one.

The form says upfront that this information is published in the open data API, so drivers and route planners can see which vehicles your station can refuel.

Refuelling protocols in the data API

Version 2 of the data API now lists the declared refuelling protocols of each nozzle in protocol_configs. The values are short codes. A new endpoint, GET /v2/protocol-type, returns what every code means, including whether a standard is in force or superseded and which vehicle tank sizes a category covers. Protocol types now carry a short label and a description, and their names no longer include the scope in parentheses.

A change to a nozzle's protocols counts as a change to the station, so requests that ask only for updated data pick it up.

A steadier public map

  • The map stops at the closest zoom level of its map tiles, so it no longer turns grey when zooming in far. Links with a closer zoom open at the closest available level.
  • A map tile that failed to load is retried once.
  • The map pauses status updates while its browser tab is hidden, and refreshes right away when you come back.
  • A status update that gets no answer stops waiting after 30 seconds, and late answers no longer overwrite newer ones.
  • The report form loads its spam check only when you open it, says when the check could not load, and renews it when it expires.

Smaller changes

  • The vehicle side of a nozzle now means the side as seen from the driver's seat. The help text says so.
  • The operator portal maps no longer turn grey at the closest zoom.

Behind the scenes

The map runs on a newer version of its map library and loads less code. The servers for images and map tiles have more capacity, so they stay available when many tiles load at once. There is no visible change for users from any of this.
