Registering Your Station Layout¶

The layout editor is not yet available in the production portal. This page describes an upcoming release, and details can still change until it ships. Operators who want to register their stations early can contact h2-stations@clean-hydrogen.europa.eu.
The station layout is the registered model of a station's physical hardware: dispensers, the nozzles on them, storage units, and the hydrogen products the station sells. A registered and confirmed layout is the prerequisite for the v2 signal types (per-nozzle availability, usage, hydrogen storage, pricing) and for per-dispenser detail on the map. The Station Layout explains the concept and the motivation.
Registration takes about 5 minutes per station. Existing station data and published statuses are not affected.
Prerequisites¶
- Permission. Registering the layout requires the permission to modify the station's core data.
- Dispenser inventory. The number of physical dispensers and the label used for each one (for example
DISP-01). - Nozzle details. For each nozzle: the dispenser it sits on, its connector, and the fuel category it serves.
If a signal originator reports on the station, agree on the identifiers with them before registering, see Identifiers.
The registration wizard¶
The wizard is started from the station's Layout tab in the portal. As long as no layout is registered, the tab shows a Register station layout button.
The wizard consists of the following steps:
- Introduction. Summary of what the wizard records and what is needed. Nothing is saved at this point.
- Dispenser summary. The dispenser counts from the station's existing records, used as the starting point. The wizard pre-fills what it can from them.
- Guided questions. The wizard captures dispensers and nozzles one question at a time: labels, connectors, fuel categories. Any answer can be revised before proceeding.
- Review in the layout editor. The captured layout, shown as dispensers with their nozzles, for a final check. The editor validates the layout and reports inconsistencies before saving is possible.
- Storage units (optional). On-site hydrogen storage: an identifier, the nominal capacity in kilograms, and the dispensers each unit feeds. The hydrogen-storage signal type reports against these records. This step can be skipped and completed later.
Saving the review step registers the layout and marks every record as confirmed. From that point, signal originators can reference the station's dispensers and nozzles in v2 signals.
Registered dispensers, nozzles, and storage units cannot be edited self-service afterwards (see Changing a registered layout), so the layout should be verified before saving. For station configurations the form does not accommodate, contact h2-stations@clean-hydrogen.europa.eu before registering.
Identifiers¶
Every dispenser, nozzle, storage unit, and product carries an identifier that is unique within the station and stable over time. Signals reference these identifiers, so operator and signal originator must use identical values.
- Reuse the naming already established in the operation or the telemetry system rather than introducing a new scheme.
- Align the identifiers with the signal originator before registering. A mismatch surfaces later as rejected signals with errors such as
Unknown nozzle identifier. - Treat identifiers as permanent. Renaming a registered identifier breaks the signal integration referencing it.
Confirmation¶
Every layout record must be explicitly confirmed by a user at the operator before signals against it are accepted. Creating a record through the portal counts as that confirmation: records from the wizard are confirmed by saving the review step, and a product is confirmed when it is created or edited on the Layout tab.
Records can also be registered on the operator's behalf, for example by H2-Stations during signal-originator onboarding. Such a record is not yet confirmed. A product in this state carries a Needs review badge on the Layout tab, and price signals for it are rejected. Opening the product and saving it once confirms it.
The published data represents the station, so the platform accepts signals only against hardware an accountable person has verified. If a signal originator reports rejected identifiers although the layout appears registered, an unconfirmed record is the first thing to check.
Products and pricing¶
Products are managed on the Layout tab, independently of the wizard. A product is the entity a price refers to: a pressure stage (350 or 700 bar) together with the declared green-hydrogen share. Products are created with Add product and maintained through the edit and delete controls on each product card.
Each product can record the nozzles that dispense it. This mapping is informational and allows the applicable price to be shown for a matched nozzle.
- A new product must be reviewed (opened and saved) before price signals for it are accepted.
- Deleting a product that an active price feed references stops its price from being published. The portal warns before such a deletion.
Changing a registered layout¶
Products can be maintained on the Layout tab at any time.
Dispensers, nozzles, and storage units are fixed after registration. For hardware changes (a dispenser added, a nozzle replaced with a different connector), contact h2-stations@clean-hydrogen.europa.eu. Self-service editing of registered equipment is on the roadmap.
After registration¶
- The Layout tab shows the registered layout: dispenser cards with their nozzles, connectors, vehicle sides, and served fuel categories, plus storage units and products.
- The signal originator can move to Signal API v2 and send per-nozzle signals for the station.
- Data users receive the layout through Export API v2.
- Existing records and the current map status continue to work unchanged.
